How Does Botox Reduce Frown Lines?

Botox contains botulinum toxin type A, which is a type of neuroprotein that blocks the nerve signals being sent by the brain to the corresponding muscles.   Here’s why that’s important for treating frown lines: Over time, repetitive motions – like squinting, frowning, or furrowing the brows – create creases and lines on the forehead region. These frown lines can be detrimental to achieving a youthful complexion, as they can make you look constantly tired or angry, even when you’re not.   By blocking the nerve signals to these muscles, they effectively stop engaging in the repetitive movements that cause frown lines. When those muscles relax, the skin above them smooths out, resulting in minimized frown lines and wrinkles.

What to Expect from My Botox Procedure

Interested in using Botox to reduce your frown lines? Here’s what you can expect from your Botox procedure:
  • Your forehead area (including between the eyebrows) are treated with ice or a numbing cream to help prep it for injection.
  • Botox is injected between the eyebrows, which is usually where frown lines are most prominent.
  • Multiple injections may be made, depending on the severity of the frown lines.
The entire Botox procedure takes about 15 to 20 minutes, making it a great treatment for people who have busy schedules. You can go right to your normal schedule after the procedure, although you may see some redness and swelling at the injection site for a couple of days.
This visit was a pleasure! Dr. Brenman thoroughly explained my options and did seem rushed. He answered all my questions and made me comfortable with making my decision. Gina was friendly and helpful in facilitating scheduling etc. I feel confident in my choice.
